Winter/Christmas Cake

We made this cake on Christmas for our family. It's white cake with buttercream frosting and covered in fondant. We used snowflake cookie cutters that we received for Christmas to make snowflakes, and fondant cut-out letters to write Merry Christmas. To stick the fondant together we use egg whites and painted it on with a small paint brush. Also on this cake are edible silver balls that we stuck to the fondant snowflakes using decorating icing.

Shakespeare Cake!

This cake we made for our school bake-off! Our school was performing a play called The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) so we made a cake that looked like a Shakespeare book. This cake is white cake with buttercream frosting. What we did to make it look like a book is make two layers of cake and carve it into a book shape and cover it with frosting. We let the frosting cool and put white fondant on top of that. We decorated one page with a picture of Shakespeare (that our school used on the play posters) and piped it on with black icing. On the other page we just wrote the name of the play and then we made a red bookmark drape down the middle. We ended up winning the bake off and getting our grade some class points! This cake was challenging to make but in the end it was worth it.
