Friday Night Lights/Dillon Football Cake

I made this cake for my friend Kendall, who is just as big of a Friday Night Lights fan as I am. This is a fudge-chocolate cake with mint buttercream frosting. The outside of the cake is covered with blue fondant (Satin Ice buttercream). The words, football, and jerseys are all made out of melted chocolate  To make these, I put melted chocolate in zip loc bags, cut the tips off, and squeezed the chocolate onto wax paper. After sitting in the refrigerator for a few minutes, I peeled them off and stuck them on the cake with a little frosting. Each jersey is an actual player's name from the show with the appropriate number. Hope you FNL fans like it!

How to Make Modeling Chocolate and Thin Mint Cake

This is a simple photo-tutorial on how to make modeling chocolate.

To begin you will need:
- 4 tbs light corn syrup
- 1 tbs tap water
- 9 oz milk or white chocolate

I doubled the recipe for this cake.

First, in a medium/large bowl, heat your chocolate in the microwave for 30 second intervals until completely melted.

In a small bowl, combine light corn syrup and water. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir.

Pour water and corn syrup mixture into the melted chocolate.

Stir until just combined (no more clear rivers of corn syrup).

Pour the chocolate mixture onto clear plastic wrap.

Wrap it up and put in the refrigerator for 2 hours (at least) or let sit over night. If the modeling chocolate gets to hard, you can always microwave it for a few seconds.

Roll out the modeling chocolate on a smooth surface. I usually put down some crisco vegetable shortening so it doesnt still to the counter.

Transfer the chocolate onto the cake, smoothing down with your hands.

Trim the edges and finish you cake!

This cake is designed to look like a thin mint. It is fudge-chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Happy Birthday Makenzy!

Pin-Up Swimsuit Cake

My sister and I made this cake for our cousin's pin-up themed bridal shower. This is red velvet cake with creme cheese frosting. The cake is covered in white Satin Ice fondant. The red swimsuit was painted on with red food coloring (mixed with vodka as a thinner). Using different shades of pink, we created frosting roses on the sides.

Star Wars Cake

This is a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting filling. The outside is iced in basic buttercream frosting colored blue (we use the recipe from http://www.cookingclassy.com/2012/09/my-favorite-fluffy-buttercream-frosting/). The light saber is made from colored fondant and the stars are white chocolate.
